Please compare this Polonaise BWV Anhang 117a to its sister version Polonaise BWV Anhang 117b.
The following points are important concerning the Baroque style performance practice appropriate for this Polonaise :
- Most quarter notes in the left hand should be played slightly detached
- Mordents (such as in measure 1, first beat) begin on the main note and are played very rapidly, ON the beat
- Appogiaturas (such as in measure1, second beat) are played ON the beat and take up one half of the main note's value
- Trills (such as in measure 13, second beat) begin on the upper auxiliary note and are played ON the beat
- → For your convenience, the editor has included in this score a suggestion for the proper realization of each one of these ornaments in smaller print
