This Arioso in D minor by Alessandro Scarlatti is a beautiful work from the Italian Baroque period.
The eighth-note accompaniment in the left hand sustains and gives momentum to the long and slow phrase in the right hand.
Please note that the editor has provided in this score suggested realizations for the cadential trills in measures 8, 16 and 18.
According to Italian Baroque performance practice, such cadential trills are played ON the beat and start on the upper note.
The choice of dynamics is left to the player, as Scarlatti himself did not provide any dynamics in his manuscript.
