Program Notes :

Couperin composed this work La Charoloise for the harpsichord, but it can also very well be played on the piano.
Remember however that the ornamentation indicated by Couperin must be strictly observed.
In order to assist the player, the editor has added to this score suggestions for the realization of the ornaments in accordance with French Baroque performance practice.
These ornaments are :
- Mordents (in the left hand, measures 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 14) : mordents begin on the main note, ON the beat, and should be played as rapidly as possible with a biting character
- Trills (measures 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 13) : trills begin on the upper auxiliary note and are played ON the beat
