Sonata in A Major, Hob. XVI:5 (1/3 : Allegro) -- Urtext

Divertimento - Partita - Landon 8

This brilliant and energetic Allegro is the first movement of the Sonata in A Major, Hob. XVI:5 by Franz Joseph Haydn.

This sonata - also called Divertimento or Partita - is thought to have been composed before 1763, although its authenticity is doubtful.

If authentic, its style suggests that it must be one of Haydn's earliest works.

Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here : trills, turns and appoggiaturas) in accordance with the performance practice of the Classical period.

In particular, ornaments are played ON the beat, and trills begin on the upper auxiliary note.

In trills, more or less repercussions can be played, depending on the pianist's taste and ability.

This opening movement from Haydn's Sonata in A Major, Hob. XVI:5 is appropriate for Grade 9 pianists.

Duration : 06:33
