Air in F Major, HWV 348

From Water Music - Suite No. 1, HWV 348 (6/10)

This Air in F Major, HWV 348 was composed by George Frideric Handel in 1717.

It is the sixth of ten movements in Handel's Orchestral Suite No. 1 in F Major, HWV 348.

This suite is itself part of Handel's Water Music, a collection three suites of orchestral movements.

Handel composed his Water Music in response to King George I's request for a concert on the River Thames.

Handel's Water Music, HWV 348-350 was first performed on July 17, 1717.

This Air in F Major, HWV 348 was originally composed for orchestra.

This score is an arrangement for piano solo.

It remains in the original key of F Major.

This arrangement is appropriate for Grade 4 pianists.

This score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here : trills) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.

In particular, trills are played ON the beat, starting on the upper auxiliary note.

The number of repercussions can be adjusted to the player's taste and ability.

Also, we suggest adding cadential trills in measures 8 and 12.

Although not present in the source, such cadential trills are an important part of the Baroque style.

Duration : 01:39
