This Study Op. 45, No. 17 is a beautiful study for arpeggio passages and string crossings in the first position.

It is also very useful for developing a quality détaché bowing at both the tip and the nut of the bow.

The violist should begin this study with a down-bow and then with an up-bow.

Also, the first note of each measure should be played with the whole bow.
