Der Freischütz is an opera in three acts by Carl Maria von Weber.

It is written on a libretto by Johann Friedrich Kind.

Der Freischütz is one of the first important German Romantic operas

Its plot is based on German folk legend, and many of its melodies were inspired by German folk music.

The first performance was given in Berlin on June 18, 1821.

The overture and the Hunter's Chorus from Act III (with Princely enjoyment and manly employment ...) are often performed as separate concert pieces.
