General remarks on shifting   |   Sheet music for practicing shifting

General remarks on shifting :

Shifting is a fundamental aspect of string playing in which the player releases the weight of the shifting finger on the string, slides on the fingerboard, and then reapplies the weight on the destination note.

The sliding finger does not come off the string.

The shifting motion has to be very relaxed, and the sound seamless.

Also, the fourth finger should always remain above the strings.

During the change of positions, the bow may slow down.
