This Trumpet Tune in C Major, Z. T698 is a lively keyboard piece imitating the sound and style of the trumpet.
Also, please take note that the editor has provided in this score suggestions for the correct realization of ornaments in accordance with the Rules for Graces as stated in The Harpsichord Master (1697) and which were, according to the title page, given with the knowledge and consent of Henry Purcell.
These ornaments are :
- Measures 1-2 (left hand) : The beat, which is in fact a quick mordent
- Measure 4 : The shake, which is the English equivalent to a trill
- Measure 11 : The backfall and shake (or plain note and shake), which is in fact an ordinary trill with the starting (upper) note prolonged
