This Little Bugler, Op. 117, No. 2 [Der Kleine Trompeter] by Leo Oehmler is a short march.

This march is a nice selection for beginner violinists.

It is most interesting as the violin plays only on the three upper open strings (E, A and D).

The melody resides mainly in the piano, either in the left hand or in the right.

For better control, the violinist can use the upper part of the bow, playing short, well-defined strokes.

Great care must be taken to play the dynamics which are given with much detail in both the score and the violin part.
