Locatelli, Pietro Antonio

Pietro Antonio Locatelli was an Italian violinist and composer of the Baroque period.
A child prodigy on the violin, he was sent to Rome to study under the direction of Arcangelo Corelli.
In 1729, he settled in Amsterdam where he lived until his death in 1764.
He composed concerti grossi, violin sonatas, concertos and caprices, sonatas for the flute, trio sonatas as well as other insrumental music.
Pietro Antonio Locatelli had an immense influence on the development of violin technique.
He is considered the founding-father of modern instrumental virtuosity.
