Wagner's Bridal Chorus,
also know as Here Comes the Bride,
is taken from the romantic opera Lohengrin which premiered in Weimar, Germany, on 28 August 1850 under the direction of Franz Liszt, a close friend of Wagner. As a processional wedding march, it is typically played for the bride's entrance at the beginning of Western wedding ceremonies. In the opera, however, the chorus is sung after the ceremony by the women of the wedding party, as they accompany Elsa, the heroine and Lohengrin's new wife, to the bridal chamber. |
