Program Notes on Sonate HWV 373 (III : Largo) by Handel :

This short but beautiful Largo is the third movement from the Violin Sonata Op. 1, No. 15, HWV 373 by George Frideric Handel.

Please note that this score contains a suggested trill realization which can be used for all trills within this Largo.

In accordance with Baroque performance practice, the violinist should remember that the trills are to be played ON the beat, starting on the upper auxiliary note.

More or less repercussions may be played depending on the violinist's ability.

Furthermore, we suggest adding a trill to measure 6 for the sake of coherence with measure 2.

Also, the violinist should feel free to add his own dynamics to the music, and to elaborate and add ornaments to the melody of this slow movement.

This sonata movement is to be played in the first four positions.
