Grieg, Edvard
1843-1907
Norwegian composer, pianist and conductor of the Romantic period.
He is the best-known Scandinavian composer of his generation and was an enthousiastic promoter of Norwegian music.
He is best remembered for his lyrics pieces (songs and piano pieces) in which he merges folk music and Romantic musical ideas.
Grieg was a nationalist composer, as he was very much inspired by Norwegian folk music.
Because of this, his contemporaries called him the Chopin of the North.
