Grétry, André Ernest Modeste

André Ernest Modeste Grétry was a Liégeois and later French composer of the Classical period.
He was born in Belgium, but in 1767 he moved to France and took French nationality.
André Ernest Modeste Grétry made major contributions to the scope and style of the 18th century opéra comique.
His opéras comiques and recitative comedies for the Paris Opéra were very successful in the 20 years up to the French Revolution.
