Charles Dancla, Studies Opus 84 : 36 Études mélodiques et très faciles pour violon [36 Melodious and Very Easy Studies for the Violin].
Dancla composed these Studies Opus 84 for the violin, and a transcription for the viola also exists.
These Studies Opus 84 by Dancla are often among the first ones studied by young violinists and violists.
This Study in F Major, Op. 84, No. 23 is mainly concerned with up-bow staccato bowing.
It is to be played in the first and third positions and includes some easy natural harmonics.
It has the following form :
- Mm. 1-8 : Theme phrase A in F Major, going from the tonic to the dominant (I-V progression)
- Mm. 9-16 : Theme phrase A' this time going from the tonic to the tonic (I-I progression)
- Mm. 17-24 : Central section phrase B in the dominant key of C Major (I-V progression)
- Mm. 25-32 : Central section phrase B' (I-I progression)
- Mm. 33-end : Theme phrases A and A' repeated
This useful study is preceded with an exercise in finger action in the key of F Major, which is to be played first slurred 4 notes per bow, and then 8 notes per bow.
