Source : Charles Dancla, Studies Opus 84 : 36 Études mélodiques et très faciles pour violon [36 Melodious and Very Easy Studies for the Violin].
Dancla composed these Studies Opus 84 for the violin, and a transcription for the viola also exists.
These Studies Opus 84 by Dancla are often among the first ones studied by young violinists and violists.
Study Opus 84, No. 16 is in fact made up of two studies, each one preceded with an exercise.
Both studies are concerned with on-the-string staccato.
The first of these studies is written in eighth notes and is thus a bit slower than the second study, which is written in sixteenth notes.
In both cases, the player must be careful to give each staccato note a crisp bite with the wrist, followed by a complete release of the right hand.
The bow must remain on the string at all times.
