Carl Czerny (1791-1857) was an Austrian piano teacher, composer, pianist, theorist and historian.

Czerny was the most important pupil of Ludwig van Beethoven.

As a piano teacher, Czerny had important pupils, including Franz Liszt.

Czerny was a central figure in the transmission of Beethoven's legacy.

Nowadays, Czerny is remembered mostly for his didactic piano pieces.
