Source : Arcangelo Corelli, 12 Sonate a Violino Solo [12 Sonatas for Solo Violin], Op. 5 (Rome, 1700).
Corelli's twelve sonatas Opus 5 are dedicated to Electress Sophie Charlotte of Brandenburg.
This sonata was originally composed for violin and basso continuo (marked violone e cimbalo in the source).
This Sarabanda is the third movement of this four-movement sonata : Preludio (Vivace), Corrente (Allegro), Sarabanda (Largo) and Giga (Allegro).
It has a very simple A-A-B-B musical form, with the A part ending on the dominant and the B part ending in a perfect cadence in the main key of D minor.
