Muzio Clementi is acknowledged as being the first composer to have written specifically for the piano.

Being a contemporary of Mozart and Beethoven, Muzio Clementi is now recognized as a prominent figure in the development of the sonata form.

He remains famous for his piano sonatinas and piano studies, among which the celebrated Gradus ad Parnassum.
