Words and Music : James Lord Pierpont (1822-1893).
Jingle Bells is one of the best known and most commonly sung secular Christmas songs in the world.
James Lord Pierpont first published this famous sleighing song under the title The One Horse Open Sleigh on September 16, 1857.
In 1859, he reissued the song under a new title : Jingle Bells.
It bears the dedication : To John P. Ordway.
It is believed that Pierpont, a minister, composed this song for children celebrating Thanksgiving at his Boston Sunday School.
The song was so well received that it was repeated at Christmas.
The lyrics of the song capture the essence of a traditional Christmas and the bells announce the arrival of Santa Claus to the delight of children of all ages!
Over time, the song has become associated with the joys of winter and the holidays, and has been translated into many languages.
