Carulli, Ferdinando


Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841) was an Italian guitarist, composer and guitar teacher of the end of the Classical period and the beginning of the Romantic period.

Born in Naples, Ferdinando Carulli established himself in Paris around 1808.

In Paris, Carulli was at the centre of the guitaromanie, and he became famous as a virtuoso, composer and teacher.

Carulli was among the first guitarists to reveal the possibilities of the guitar in terms of expressivity, timbre, harmony and virtuosity.

He remains famous for his Méthode complète pour parvenir à pincer la guitare, Op. 241, and numerous other works for the guitar.
