General remarks on bariolage   |   Sheet music for practicing bariolage

General remarks on bariolage :

Bariolage is a musical technique that applies to bowed instruments. It consists in a rapid alternation between a static note and changing notes, the latter forming a melody either above or below the static note.

Bariolage is commonly used in Baroque violin music, where the static note is usually an open string. Bariolage produces a beautiful effect of maximum resonance on the instrument.
