Please compare this Polonaise BWV Anhang 117b to its sister version Polonaise BWV Anhang 117a.
The following points are important concerning the Baroque style performance practice appropriate for this Polonaise :
- Mordents (such as in measure 1, first beat) begin on the main note and are played very rapidly, ON the beat
- Appogiaturas (such as in measure1, second beat) are played ON the beat and take up one half of the main note's value
- The schleifer (such as in measure 3, second beat) is used to fill in added notes before its main note is heard. It begins ON the beat and is played quickly and expressively
- Trills (such as in measure 11, third beat) begin on the upper auxiliary note and are played ON the beat
- → For your convenience, the editor has included in this score a suggestion for the proper realization of each one of these ornaments in smaller print
- → Please note that we suggest adding a trill to measure 14 (second beat), although this trill does NOT appear in the sources
