Program Notes :
|
Although originally composed for the harpsichord, this March in G Major, BWV Anhang 124 can very well be played on the piano.
In accordance with Baroque performance practice, remember that unslurred quarter notes should be played slightly detached, especially in the left hand.
Please note that for your convenience, the editor has included in this score suggestions for the realization of the ornaments :
- Trills : (measures 7 and 20) begin ON the beat, on the upper auxiliary notes. More on less repercussions may be played depending on the player's ability. Also, the value of the dot may be exaggerated and the eighth note played as a sixteenth note, as was customarily done in the Baroque period
- Appogiaturas : (measures 13 and 17) are played ON the beat and take up one half on the main note's value
